The introduction of chemical energy into the EAF through the use of sidewall burners is a reliable method to increase the furnace productivity. The burners preheat the scrap on the furnace periphery and assist with post combustion and foamy slag formation. The key for the burners' successful contribution is their high efficiency, low plugging ratio and low maintenance requirement.
PTI offers a family of uniquely designed burners that are more efficient in the EAF process operation than conventional burners. Our multifunctional oxy-fuel burners use a combustion chamber to mix and ignite the fuel and oxygen to: guarantee flame chemistry; minimize plugging; introduce supersonic oxygen and post combustion oxygen; and inject carbon, lime and other materials required for the EAF steel melting process. The two stage combustion process and dynamically controlled flame structure help to operate burners with different flame structures: a highly luminous, stochiometric flame, reducing flame and oxygen enriched, piercing flame.
